Success (Keep On Rising) feat. Jimetta Rose [prod. Stro Elliot]

about

This song is about my idea of what success is, what it takes to become successful, and why I believe I'm successful, verses commercial hip hop's idea of what success is (ie money, cars, girls, etc). Appreciate what you have and not what you don't and make your own definition of success. Listen, share & enjoy!

lyrics

Verse 1
since a young boy i was meant to go out and get
live with spirit peruse the outer limits
its mind over matter its me against the world
set your eyes on the prize or see your life untwirl
or unravel keep your head above water in this Babylonian state
trying to win the race
i set the pace avoid the negative and put positive in its place
meanwhile i'm keeping the faith, no doubt
i stay determined in the dreams that i chase
go with my gut with all the risks that i take
i learn from life especially from mistakes
the pain and heartache only strengthen my fate
hold on remain strong and calm right your wrongs
i weathered the storm just by penning this song, uh
nevertheless i lessened my stress
moved out to the west to increase my success oh yes

Hook:
step off the moon get out your comfortable
don't be confused by what is visible
you, you've got what it takes
i'm sure that you can make it if you try
cause the cream keeps rising to the top

Verse 2
grew up right outside of DC in Maryland
my moms gave me my space to be free
excelled in sports, school and all extracurriculars
but fell in love with music in particular
no time for trouble out running the streets
too busy playing my sax and listening to beats
got to college on an academic scholarship
finished in four years with honors i demolished it
set my sights on nyc had to see what i could be
rap was still a hobby
got to LA that's when a light bulb went off
rap act and model yeah i was going to do it all
small and large screens shows albums publishing
been overseas three times with no celebrity co-sign
slowed my grind with the birth of my son
stayed focused so i knew success would surely come

Verse 3
i stay determined in the dreams that i chase
go with my gut with all the risks that i take
i learn from life especially from mistakes
the pain and heartache only strengthen my fate
it ain't about dollars but how you choose to live life
money don't mean jack if you ain't living it right, uh
nevertheless i lessened my stress
moved out to the west to increase my success oh yes

Hook

Outro:
rising to the top keep on
rising to the top keep on rising
